IDEAL SPECIMEN PLANT FOR SHELTERED SPOT IN WARMER AREAS
You are buying a Cycas Revoluta (Cycad) Palm Tree also known as a sago palm which is 40 -60 cm tall above the pot & planted in a 14cm pot. This tree is approx 4 to 6 years old.
Cycads are one of the oldest species of plants on the earth today, they are a very slow growing tree, only putting on a new set (or rosette) of leaves once a year, although some years they can miss out growing new leaves altogether. The new leaves grow from the centre of the plant, and when they eventually break hibernation, the new leaves will grow very quickly, reaching their full length in as little as 2 weeks. New baby cycads can often form around the base of mature plants.
Mature plants will happily survive short period of frost, if leaving outside it is wise to wrap with fleece or protect the centre with straw through the coldest months. These are equally at home in the conservatory or a well lit room. Replant in a loam (soil) based, well draining compost with very little fertilizer, once settled into its new pot feed sparingly with a high Nitrogen feed. Protect new leaves from frost or cold winds, as they are very tender when young.
