Citrus Limon Florentina
Four Seasons Lemon espalier
This beautiful citrus plant will make an ideal gift!
You are buying one Four Seasons Lemon espalier in a 22cm pot, plant height approximately 40-50cm above the pot. Our Four Seasons Lemon espalier stock are currently in fruit.
Cultivated in Tuscany in the 16th Century, the 'Florentine' lemon is a popular citrus because, as it's common name 'Four Seasons' suggests, flowers and fruits can be found on the plant all year round. The lemon fruits themselves are pale yellow, fairly elongated in shape and very juicy.
'Espalier' are vertical trellises traditionally used to grow citrus on the continent, therefore this variety is perfect for growing against a trellis/wall to produce a beautiful living wall of fruit even in the smallest of spaces! The plant can remain in a pot or be planted straight into the ground. As the plant grows just bend the branches and tie them to the structure as you would any climbing plant. Alternatively if you prefer you can keep as small container/patio plants and prune as required.
These plants are tolerant to the cold, but it is wise to overwinter indoors or protect plants during periods of extreme cold. They grow best in a free draining soil and prefer full sun, with regular feeding necessary to produce a healthy tree. The Four Seasons Lemon will produce fruit more freely with higher temperatures and excellent results can be achieved when grown in a greenhouse or conservatory.
The images shown are of an actual plant we hold in stock. Where fruit is shown it may be in a ripe or unripened state. We will always endeavour to send plants that are currently fruiting (as may be shown in the image). However, occasionally this is not possible with every specimen and your citrus may not have fruit on it at the time of sending. Plants with fruit will be sent subject to availability and on a first come first served basis.
