This popular maple has purple foliage which turns a delightful red and orange in autumn and bears small clusters of yellow, red tinged flowers in spring. It is fully hardy and because this tree is grafted onto a specially selected base it will thrive in any type of soil. It is also noted for its pollution tolerance so should not be affected if grown near a busy road. It prefers a spot in the sun or semi shade. A vigourous grower in its natural form, it can eventually attain a height of 12m. However this standard Acer can be pruned to retain its shape and height. A great specimen tree for a small or medium sized garden.
